TUMBUH PERLAHAN - Elbow Crop Jacket
HANDLOOMED AND HAND-DRAWN BATIK
FROM SELF-GROWN INDONESIAN COTTON
IN GAJI VILLAGE, EAST JAVA
A minimalist Japanese-inspired piece for you to breeze between the changing season's weather. Fits with almost everything, the secret behind the allure of this jacket is in its subtle elbow detail and its deep pockets to keep life in order. The structured look of the handloomed raw cotton is paired with soft linen lining, providing just the right warmth for the everyday and gets softer with every wear.
This jacket took 6 months to craft by hand. Its journey begins on the field, where cotton plants are grown through monsoon season. As we enter dry season, women would come together and harvest the cotton flowers. They would sit together to take out the seeds and spin it into threads - creating a beautiful texture that is iconic of the handspinning process.
After a master weaver weaves the threads into the fabric, her apprentice takes over by hand-drawing this motif using hot wax. TUMBUH PERLAHAN signifies the slow growth of the cotton flower, from 1 seed bursting into the bol. It is a reminder that growth is always possible, wherever we are, whoever we are; to bloom into the person we are meant to be.
Color and pattern variations may occur and are part of the charm of this handcrafted fabric. We love that one-of-a-kind-feel!
