Why we exist
Made from nature as a way back to your own
Made from nature as a way back to your own
Every SUKKHACITTA piece begins in the SOIL, grown to give back more than it takes. From FARM to you, each one is made by the IBUS, using PLANTS and TRADITIONS passed down over generations.

Sukkhacitta started with a simple mission: to reconnect.

Our Mission
We create a different kind of beauty, where every choice changes the world for the better.

Farm to closet
If it doesn't grow in the soil, it doesn't go in our clothes.
COTTON grows beside CORN that shades it, chillies that keep the pests off, and PEANUTS that feed the ground. COFFEE and CASSAVA sit beneath the INDIGO. Our IBUS call this TUMPANG SARI, different things growing together so that each one makes the others stronger.
A whole living system goes into a single shirt, which makes wearing one about the closest thing there is to wearing NATURE on your skin.
100% Plants
Every color comes out of the ground
100% Plants
Every color comes out of the ground
Less than two hundred years ago, everyone on EARTH wore color that came from PLANTS. Ours still does. INDIGO ferments in mountain spring water, woken with Javanese COCONUT sugar instead of the usual chemical. Our brown comes from MAHOGANY the furniture workshops throw out. The yellow falls from a sacred tree once a year, after the rains.
Most of these PLANTS were medicine here long before they were color. Nothing synthetic sits between them and your skin, which is the difference you notice without quite being able to name it.

Made by Mothers
Twelve families make a single piece.
Made by Mothers
Twelve families make a single piece.
We call them IBU, which means MOTHER. Our pieces carry their names because they are the reason the pieces exist.
By reviving indigenous cotton and the plants that color it, they are reweaving a web of ecology that had almost gone from these islands. They tend IBU PERTIWI, the first mother, who holds everything and asks for nothing in return, and under their hands she is coming back.

Kasmini
Regenerative Farmer
The first woman brave enough to say yes. Most of her fields were pawned by then, so she planted what was left. Within a few seasons her harvest had grown sixfold, and today she farms all of her land again.
Lilik
Batik Tulis
Forty years of drawing, the way her mother drew before her. For most of them the dyes were chemical and she felt them in her chest. Today she works only with plants, and she can breathe again.

Srikanthi
Master and teacher of masters
Her work takes a lifetime to learn and a lifetime to give away. You will find her seated beside the youngest women, steadying their first lines with her own hand.
Linna
Community Lead, Tuban
She holds the cotton in the ground and the women who turn it into cloth. Her own plot came to her degraded by weedkiller, and she has nursed it back until it is healthy and it is hers.

The Most Meaningful Clothes™
Our Clothes are a library of stories.
Long before books, every CULTURE kept its KNOWLEDGE in cloth. Mothers passed motifs to their daughters, and inside every motif lived a STORY. A PRAYER, a PROMISE, a piece of who they were.
Every SUKKHACITTA piece begins the way those stories did, with an intention. A word someone was living through. Courage. Enough. Hope. The word travels to our villages, where an Ibu writes it into cloth with hot wax, line by line, for forty days and sometimes longer. In Java the word for this is MENULIS. To write.
By the time a piece reaches you it has passed through many hand, and the intention is still in it. What you write with it is yours.

"It isn't blood that flows through our veins.
It's hot wax."

RECIPROCITY
EVERYTHING HERE GIVES BACK MORE THAN IT TAKES.
The soil feeds the cotton, and the cotton is grown in a way that feeds the soil back. The Ibus gave us the craft, and it now earns them a living without anyone having to leave home. Nothing is taken here without something returned.
Every piece leaves the ground it came from healthier than it found it, and that is the only measure we have ever trusted. All of it is plants, so when a piece has finally had its life it composts. From soil, and for soil.
SEMAI, THE SEEDING.
SEMI, THE GROWING.
TUAI, THE HARVEST.
We keep the rhythm of the farm. A piece is ready sixty to a hundred and eighty days after the seed goes in, and we have never found a way to hurry it that was worth doing.
EMPOWERING WOMEN
At the Rumah SukkhaCitta Foundation, young women come to learn a craft that can carry them, taught by the women who have carried it for generations. Weaving, natural dye, batik, regenerative farming, and how to run a business of your own.
One Permanent Collection
The only seasons we follow are Nature’s. Our pieces are field-tested to stay with you for years, so they are made once and made properly.

CLOSING THE LOOP
Bring a piece back and we will mend it for as long as you own it, or dye it again when it fades. Every offcut goes back to the Ibus, who turn the scraps into new work and the smallest ones into our tags.
1% FOR BIODIVERSITY
One percent of revenue goes to soil health and biodiversity in rural Indonesia, through grants for farmers moving away from monoculture, and goats.
