We believe that clothes are not just something we wear, but an embodiment of our identity.

That’s exactly what Mita Nugraeni felt when she chose to wear her PAGISENJA Kebaya Top in MALAM to meet Justin Trudeau—yes, that Justin Trudeau—during the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta 🇨🇦

In a high-security, small-capacity meet and greet, Mita stepped into the room, with a grin from ear to ear, wearing her Most Meaningful Clothes. Her task: to prepare an official gift on behalf of the former Canadian Prime Minister for Indonesia's former president, Joko Widodo. Already anticipating the moment from days prior, she instantly knew she wasn't going to wear a suit. She chose something far more powerful.

“I thought a special occasion called for a specially made outfit! That’s why I chose to wear the Kebaya Top in MALAM with a matching skirt. I always feel good and special when wearing made-by-Ibus pieces. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to give personal gifts to the [former] PM, otherwise I would have loved to gift him something from SukkhaCitta!” – Mita Nugraeni

We love that. Because in a room where power often looks a certain way, Mita rewrote the script. She brought her full self—heritage, values, and all—into the spotlight.

A new kind of tradition. One that evolves with her until one day it's time to pass it on to the next generation.

A chance encounter turn lifetime connection

Mita first found us during the pandemic. In late 2020, like many of us, she was online a lot—searching for meaning, for brands that felt real. She stumbled on SukkhaCitta’s Instagram, and with one press of the follow button, a whole journey began.

Her first piece? From the KUPU collection, at a local bazaar in Kemang. Soon came IKATAN, and eventually her own curated capsule. Each piece a chapter in her life.

After almost two decades of work with the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta, Mita is now pursuing postgraduate studies in Adelaide, Australia. But even from afar, she’s still part of our community—still carrying our Ibus’ stories forward, one outfit at a time. And we are so proud to know our Ibus' pieces will be part of her story for years to come.

Marking milestones, celebrating her journey and the woman she's becoming.

A new heritage

We often think of heritage as something fixed, passed down. But women like Mita show us: it’s something we shape. It’s something we wear. It evolves with us.

Every time you choose a piece made by our Ibus, you’re part of that evolution. You're part of something bigger.

Do you have a story in your made-by-Ibus piece?
