Why Titik?

We asked to be shown some clothes that can be appropriate for making a wedding suit and dress and one of the cloth shown was Titik. It's not quite white nor it's quite beige either and we like the ambiguity. The material feels good and sturdy and the dot details also made it especially charming, we were sold.

Why embroider words?

I am a copywriter and in my free time I write poems, so it's having written words embroidered for my dress just comes hand-in-hand. The poems embroidered on the dress are not written by me. I cherrypicked some of the favourite lines from my favourite poets like Neruda, Larkins and the like.

What is the inspiration behind the quote?

I think Kahlil Gibran's poems on marriage resonated with me the most.

Let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous,
but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone
though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

Marriage is not co-dependency but interdependence. Couples may be together but each of them should pursue their own growth. A reminder that we are all our own beings and that we should not forget who we are at our core.
